Amarillo, TX – Sunny skies and warm temperatures are setting the stage for a pleasant Saturday across the Texas Panhandle. However, a shift in weather is expected as rain showers and gusty winds move into Amarillo by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will see a high of 74 degrees, with light winds from the southwest. By tonight, clouds will increase, and winds will shift south, bringing a low near 48 degrees. On Sunday, a 40% chance of showers will begin early, increasing to 100% by late afternoon as a cold front moves through the area. Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph.

Drivers on I-40 and Route 287 should prepare for reduced visibility and slippery roads during Sunday’s rain. Those with outdoor plans are encouraged to complete activities early Saturday or reschedule.

Looking ahead, Monday morning rain will clear by afternoon, but temperatures will drop significantly. Monday’s high is forecasted at 59 degrees, followed by a low of 38 overnight. Tuesday and Wednesday bring clearer skies but cooler conditions, with highs near 58 and 51 degrees, respectively. Nighttime lows could dip into the 20s.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items ahead of Sunday’s gusty winds. Stay updated through local weather alerts for changing conditions.
