Lubbock, TX – Residents in Texas and Oklahoma should prepare for heavy rain and thunderstorms beginning Thursday night, with a flood watch in effect through Friday evening. Up to 4 inches of rain is expected across the Lubbock region, creating a risk of flooding, especially along major highways such as Interstate 27 in Texas and U.S. Highway 83 in Oklahoma.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong storm system will move into the area, bringing increasing showers and thunderstorms that could lead to localized flooding. The heaviest rainfall is expected off the Caprock, with low-lying and poorly drained areas at the highest risk. Officials urge motorists to exercise caution and avoid flooded roadways, as conditions could deteriorate quickly during the storm.

As rain continues into Friday, residents in both Texas and Oklahoma should remain vigilant for potential flash flooding and adjust travel plans accordingly. By Friday evening, showers are expected to subside, but lingering rain could affect Veterans Day weekend, with cool, damp conditions persisting.

Saturday will bring cooler temperatures with highs around 50°F and a chance for drizzle. Another round of rain may arrive on Sunday, adding to saturated grounds and increasing the risk of localized flooding, particularly in Texas. Early next week promises a break, with mostly cloudy skies and slightly warmer temperatures reaching the mid-50s by Monday.

Residents in Texas and Oklahoma should monitor updates from the National Weather Service for the latest forecasts and take precautions, especially if traveling over the Veterans Day weekend.
