Houston, TX – A dense fog advisory is in effect for portions of the Texas Gulf Coast, creating hazardous conditions for mariners in Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, and other coastal waters. The advisory remains active until Saturday afternoon, with visibility expected to drop to less than one nautical mile in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston, the advisory for Matagorda Bay and Galveston Bay will last until 10 a.m. CST on Saturday. A separate advisory for coastal waters from Freeport to Matagorda Ship Channel and from High Island to Freeport will extend until 3 p.m. CST. Further south, the NWS in Corpus Christi has issued a dense fog advisory for Baffin Bay, Upper Laguna Madre, and surrounding bays until noon CST.
The dense fog will make navigation difficult for boaters, with low visibility increasing the risk of maritime accidents. Mariners are urged to proceed with caution, use proper fog signals, and ensure all running lights are operational. Navigational tools such as radar and compass are recommended for safe passage through affected waters.
As conditions improve in the afternoon, visibility is expected to gradually return to normal. However, mariners should remain alert to changing weather conditions and heed official updates from the National Weather Service.
