Dallas, Texas – Nearly 10 million people across North Texas and western Louisiana are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m. Sunday as dangerous weather moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the watch covers cities including Dallas, Tyler, Sherman, Shreveport, and Lufkin, with threats of softball-sized hail, 80 mph wind gusts, and the potential for a couple of tornadoes. Officials warn that another watch could be issued later this evening if a second, stronger line of storms forms.

Counties across the I-20 and I-45 corridors—including McKinney, Corsicana, Marshall, and Palestine—are in the highest risk zone. Emergency managers urge residents to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay near shelter as storms approach. Schools and hospitals in the watch zone, totaling 2,973 and 199 respectively, are advised to activate severe weather protocols.

This is one of the most significant severe weather days of the month, with impacts stretching from eastern Texas to western Louisiana. Areas that experienced damage during last month’s derecho should brace again for similar wind strength.

Storms may continue after 9 p.m. as new watches are expected. Stay weather-aware and monitor official updates.
