Texas-Louisiana Border Weather: Heavy Rain and Storms Could Bring 6 Inches by Thursday

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Thunderstorms are expected to soak Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana through Thursday, with up to 5 inches of rain and a risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas, especially near Beaumont and Lake Charles.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, widespread showers and storms will develop late Wednesday morning and intensify into the afternoon and evening. The heaviest rainfall totals—between 4 and 6 inches—are possible along the Texas-Louisiana border, particularly in areas like Lumberton, Beaumont, and DeRidder. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall includes much of Southeast Texas, while a Marginal Risk (Level 1) extends into central Louisiana.

Cities including Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Alexandria could see 1 to 2 inches of rain, with stronger cells producing localized downpours. Damaging wind gusts and small hail are also possible during stronger storms in East Texas.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and poor-drainage areas. Urban flooding may occur rapidly during peak rainfall. Keep phones charged and alerts active for watches or warnings.

More storms are expected Thursday through the weekend, with rain chances between 60–90% daily.
