San Angelo, TX – A High Wind Warning remains in effect for parts of West Central Texas until 7 p.m. Friday, with damaging wind gusts expected to reach up to 60 mph. Strong winds will impact several counties, including Fisher, Nolan, Sterling, Runnels, and Taylor, among others.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, winds will be sustained between 35 and 45 mph, with the strongest gusts likely in areas north of a San Angelo-to-Brady line. These conditions pose significant risks, including downed trees and power lines, leading to potential power outages. Travel will be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and RVs.
Authorities urge residents to take precautions by securing loose outdoor objects and staying indoors when possible. The National Weather Service advises people to avoid being outside in forested areas and near trees and branches. Those on area lakes should be cautious of choppy waters.
Drivers should exercise extreme caution, particularly on highways where sudden gusts could impact vehicle control. Officials also recommend remaining in the lower levels of buildings and staying away from windows during the strongest winds.
The warning is expected to expire by 7 p.m. Friday evening as wind speeds gradually subside.
