Houston, TX – Despite the calendar turning to October, Houston is experiencing unusually high temperatures, with the mercury reaching the mid-90s today. The National Weather Service has issued an Ozone Action Day, cautioning residents about unhealthy air quality, especially for sensitive groups.

According to the National Weather Service Houston-Galveston office, temperatures will peak in the low-to-mid 90s by this afternoon. The heatwave combines with poor air quality, triggering an alert for Houston, Brazoria, and Galveston counties. The agency recommends limiting outdoor activities early or late in the day to avoid the worst conditions.

Those with respiratory issues or other sensitivities should take precautions as the heatwave intensifies. Tonight’s forecast calls for milder temperatures in the 60s and 70s, with possible isolated thunderstorms offshore. The region may see some relief as conditions improve overnight. However, the combination of heat and poor air quality could persist throughout the week.
