Lubbock, TX – Residents of Lubbock should prepare for record-high temperatures Wednesday as unseasonably warm weather continues across the South Plains. With highs expected to reach 90°F in Lubbock and 92°F in nearby Aspermont, the region is experiencing a rare heat wave for late October. The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecasted continued warmth through Thursday, though relief is expected by Friday.
According to the NWS, temperatures will peak Wednesday afternoon, making it one of the hottest fall days in recent history. Those traveling on Loop 289 or US-84 should be mindful of potential vehicle issues due to heat and plan accordingly. Although Thursday will see similarly high temperatures, a cold front is expected to bring relief starting Friday, with highs dropping to the mid-70s by the weekend.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during the peak heat hours, especially from noon to 4 p.m. When outdoors, be sure to wear light, loose clothing and use sunscreen to protect against the intense sun.
Lubbock’s extended forecast shows a high of 90°F for Thursday, with temperatures cooling down to 58°F overnight. Friday will bring a welcome shift as the high drops to 76°F, followed by a low of 50°F. This trend of cooler weather will continue through the weekend, with highs in the upper 70s and lows around 53°F. Saturday and Sunday promise pleasant, sunny conditions, ideal for outdoor activities.
