Corpus Christi, Texas – Dangerous heat is gripping South Texas on Friday with temperatures pushing past 100°F and heat index values climbing as high as 110°F in inland areas like Cotulla, Freer, and Tilden. Conditions will intensify over the weekend, with even warmer air building through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a prolonged stretch of above-normal temperatures is underway, with highs ranging from the upper 90s along the coast to 103°F in Laredo. The heat index — a measure of how hot it feels — could top 110°F by Sunday inland. A very high UV index and warm overnight lows in the upper 70s will provide little relief.

In Corpus Christi, Rockport, and Port Lavaca, highs are expected in the mid-90s, with beachgoers facing a moderate rip current risk and UV index in the “very high” category. SE winds around 15 mph will offer slight coastal relief, but the risk remains for heat-related illnesses.

Texans are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers should be considered, and pets must have access to shade and water.

Excessive heat continues through Monday, with a slight chance of showers returning by Tuesday.
