Midland, Texas – Triple-digit temperatures will grip far West Texas Saturday, with the National Weather Service warning of heat illness risks as Big Bend soars to a sweltering 113 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT Saturday for Terrell County, Central and Lower Brewster County, and the Chisos Basin, including towns such as Marathon, Sanderson, Dryden, and Lajitas.
Big Bend National Park and the surrounding desert communities will face the most extreme temperatures. Chisos Basin may feel slightly cooler due to elevation but remains under the same advisory. Most areas will see temperatures ranging from 95 to 105 degrees.
Health officials urge residents and visitors to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. “Look before you lock” warnings remain critical as car interiors can become deadly in minutes.
Saturday marks one of the hottest days so far this summer, and additional advisories may follow if the heat persists.
