CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — Residents and visitors along the Texas Gulf Coast are advised to exercise caution as coastal flooding and hazardous seas are expected through Saturday. Forecasters warn of potential road flooding, high rip currents, and waves reaching 6 to 9 feet offshore, particularly impacting smaller boats.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Coastal Flood Advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, primarily affecting areas near bays and Gulf-facing beaches. In addition, a Small Craft Advisory has been issued from noon Friday through Sunday afternoon, cautioning mariners against navigating rough seas. Those planning Veterans Day outings should prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, with rip currents expected to remain a threat through the weekend.

For Saturday, Corpus Christi can anticipate a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 80s, accompanied by southeast winds at 10-15 mph. Coastal areas, however, may see additional beach erosion and localized flooding, especially during high tides. Hurricane Rafael, currently a Category 3 storm, is forecasted to hover in the southern Gulf of Mexico through early next week, heightening marine risks and prolonging coastal flooding potential.

Looking ahead, Sunday’s forecast suggests milder conditions, though winds and tides will continue to affect coastal waters. For those observing Veterans Day on Monday, Corpus Christi expects warm and mostly sunny skies, with temperatures reaching the mid-80s and gentle southeast winds. This should provide a more favorable environment for gatherings, though residents should stay alert to any lingering effects of Rafael’s movement in the Gulf.

Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways, and beachgoers should heed posted warnings to stay clear of high surf and rip currents. The National Weather Service advises continued monitoring of local forecasts for real-time updates.
