Fort Worth, TX – Freezing drizzle overnight has left many roads icy and dangerous across North Texas, impacting Friday morning commutes. Motorists traveling along the I-35 corridor and surrounding areas should exercise extreme caution due to slick surfaces and potential black ice.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon today. The advisory highlights the risk of minor ice accumulation, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways. Hazardous travel conditions are expected to continue through the morning.
Temperatures will remain below freezing early Friday but are expected to rise slightly to a high near 35°F by the afternoon. However, gusty northwest winds of up to 20 mph may create additional challenges for drivers. Residents are urged to delay non-essential travel if possible and check local road conditions before heading out.
Looking ahead, the weekend forecast shows gradual improvement. Saturday will bring clearer skies and a high of 45°F, followed by sunny weather on Sunday with highs reaching 46°F. Nighttime lows will remain cold, dipping into the mid-20s.
The NWS advises wearing proper footwear for icy sidewalks and ensuring exposed pipes are insulated. Be prepared for continued freezing temperatures during the evening hours and plan accordingly.
