Fort Worth, TX – A rare spring freeze is gripping North Central Texas, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 28°F overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. CDT Monday for 15 counties, including Montague, Cooke, Grayson, and Parker. Cities such as Fort Worth, Gainesville, Decatur, Weatherford, and Stephenville are expected to experience the brunt of the cold snap.

The warning highlights significant risks to crops, sensitive plants, and outdoor plumbing. The late-season freeze poses a threat to early vegetation already in the growing season. Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants and insulate exposed pipes to prevent damage.

This kind of cold in April is uncommon but not unprecedented. April freezes have historically caused damage to early-sprouting crops across the region. Agricultural areas in Comanche and Eastland counties could face the greatest impact if plants remain unprotected.

Drivers should also remain alert for potential frost on windshields and slick patches during early morning commutes.

The National Weather Service advises taking immediate action tonight to minimize freeze-related damage and ensure pets and livestock are adequately sheltered.
