Lubbock, TX – Dense fog continues to blanket much of Lubbock this morning, causing reduced visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service warns that visibility could drop to as low as 1/4 mile, particularly along Loop 289 and surrounding rural roads. Drivers are urged to use low-beam headlights and maintain safe following distances.

According to the National Weather Service, the fog is expected to persist until late morning, gradually lifting by 11 a.m. Saturday will bring mostly cloudy skies with temperatures climbing to a high of 67 degrees by the afternoon. Light southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will increase to 15 to 20 mph, bringing improved air quality and driving conditions.

The weekend forecast offers a cooler outlook. Tonight, decreasing clouds will pave the way for mostly clear skies, with lows dipping to 35 degrees. Sunday will bring sunshine but a drop in temperatures, with a high of only 45 degrees and gusty northwest winds reaching up to 30 mph.

Looking ahead, Monday through Wednesday will remain chilly. Highs will hover around the low 40s with partly cloudy skies. Lows are expected to reach the low 20s, reinforcing the winter chill.

If you’re traveling, take precautions through the fog this morning, especially on major routes like Loop 289. By Sunday afternoon, conditions will be ideal for outdoor activities as sunshine breaks through the cooler air. Stay informed with updated forecasts as the week unfolds.
