Lubbock, Texas – Drivers and residents across the South Plains and Rolling Plains should brace for potential flooding late Monday into Tuesday as heavy thunderstorms push across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday for more than 20 counties, including Lubbock, Childress, Plainview, and Post. Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with isolated pockets receiving up to 3 inches. Streets with poor drainage and low-lying areas, including playa lakes, could flood rapidly.

City streets in Lubbock, portions of U.S. Route 84 near Littlefield, and rural roads near Tulia and Matador are especially vulnerable to water pooling overnight. Commuters should expect delays Tuesday morning as water lingers in flood-prone areas.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through high water, clear storm drains where possible, and monitor local alerts. Flash Flood Warnings may be issued with little notice if storms intensify.

The Flood Watch will remain in effect until late Tuesday morning, with additional watches possible if rainfall persists. Stay tuned to local authorities and weather apps for real-time updates.
