Dallas, Texas – A widespread Flood Watch is in effect across North and Central Texas through late Tuesday night, with the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex at risk of up to 5 inches of rainfall and flash flooding in vulnerable areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the Flood Watch began at 7 a.m. Tuesday and includes more than 30 counties stretching from Montague and Denton to Robertson and Anderson. Most areas can expect 1 to 3 inches of rain, but isolated storms may deliver much heavier downpours, especially in urban centers like Dallas, Arlington, and Fort Worth.

Low-lying roads, creeks, and underpasses across Denton, Collin, Tarrant, and Dallas counties could flood quickly, especially during rush hour. TXDOT crews are on standby, and drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, particularly along Loop 820, I-35E, and parts of US-75 near McKinney.

Further east, towns including Sulphur Springs, Canton, and Palestine may also see excessive runoff, while rural areas in Navarro and Leon counties face heightened risks near swollen streams and tributaries.

The Flood Watch is expected to remain in effect until at least midnight. Officials advise residents to charge mobile devices, secure outdoor items, and prepare for potential flash flood warnings. Additional alerts may be issued if rainbands intensify later tonight.
