Texas Flood Watch ALERT: Amarillo Faces 90% Rain Chance and Flash Flood Risk Through Tuesday Night

Amarillo, TX – A Flood Watch remains in effect for Amarillo and much of the Texas Panhandle through Tuesday evening as repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms threaten flash flooding in flood-prone areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, multiple bands of heavy rain are expected to move through the region through Tuesday night. Monday and Tuesday both carry a 90% chance of rain, with totals potentially reaching between 1 and 2 inches. Gusts could peak at 30 mph, especially during afternoon storms. Low-lying roads, streams, and poor drainage areas may flood quickly with excessive runoff.

The heaviest rain is expected Monday afternoon into the evening, followed by another round Tuesday during the day. Tuesday night will bring continued rain and embedded thunderstorms before conditions begin to ease into Wednesday. The flood threat is especially heightened in areas near I-40 and US-287.
