New Braunfels, Texas – Life-threatening flash flooding is unfolding along River Road between Sattler and Gruene in Comal County, where up to 6 inches of rain has fallen Saturday morning, prompting a rare Flash Flood Emergency for the Guadalupe River.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, the emergency alert was issued at 11:04 a.m. CDT and remains in effect until at least 2:15 p.m. Evacuation orders are in place, and residents unable to leave are urged to seek higher ground immediately. This is a particularly dangerous situation with ongoing flooding confirmed by law enforcement.
Widespread flash flood warnings stretch across central and south-central Texas—including Travis, Bexar, Hays, Caldwell, and Guadalupe counties. Cities under imminent threat include Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Seguin. Rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are overwhelming drainage systems, creeks, and rivers.
Multiple low-water crossings and major roads like I-35 and U.S. 281 are becoming impassable in flood-prone stretches. Residents should stay off roads, monitor emergency alerts, and never attempt to drive through high water.
Warnings remain in effect through early afternoon and may be extended if rainfall continues. Additional alerts are possible for areas downstream of the Guadalupe River and across the Hill Country.
