Houston, TX – A fire weather watch is in effect for Houston and much of Southeast Texas on Saturday as strong winds and dry conditions create a critical wildfire risk. Residents are urged to take precautions, as any fires that ignite could spread quickly due to gusty conditions and low humidity.

According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, will develop across the region Saturday afternoon. Humidity levels could drop as low as 19%, making it easier for fires to start and spread rapidly. The fire weather watch will remain in effect through Saturday evening, with the possibility of an upgrade to a Red Flag Warning if conditions worsen.

Officials advise avoiding outdoor burning and properly disposing of cigarette butts. Homeowners should clear dry vegetation near structures and secure loose items that could be carried by strong winds.

Looking ahead, Houston’s five-day forecast brings mostly sunny skies and warming temperatures. Sunday will see a high of 75°F with clear conditions overnight. Monday and Tuesday will remain sunny, with highs reaching 77°F and 78°F, respectively. By midweek, temperatures could climb to 80°F, marking a shift to more typical spring weather.
