Abilene, TX – Dense fog is blanketing parts of Central and West Texas this morning, reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for several counties, including Taylor, Brown, and Shackelford, in effect until 8 a.m. Thursday.

Drivers should exercise extreme caution, as visibility challenges could make morning commutes hazardous. Authorities urge motorists to use low-beam headlights, reduce speeds, and maintain safe distances to avoid accidents. The affected areas include major roadways like I-20 and US-84, where conditions may be especially difficult.

According to the National Weather Service, the fog is expected to lift by mid-morning, giving way to partly sunny skies. Afternoon highs will range from the mid-50s to low 60s, with light northeast winds shifting east later in the day. Evening temperatures will cool to around 40 degrees as clouds increase overnight.

Looking Ahead: A Mix of Weather This Weekend

While today marks a temporary respite, rain is forecasted for Friday into Saturday, accompanied by cooler temperatures. Highs on Friday will peak in the upper 40s to low 50s, with a 60–80% chance of rain in cities like Brownwood, Brady, and San Saba. Showers and possible thunderstorms will continue through Saturday night before clearing on Sunday. Warmer, drier conditions are expected early next week, but another cold front is anticipated by midweek.

Residents should remain alert for changing conditions and plan for slower commutes during periods of dense fog. Stay tuned for updates on weather.gov or local broadcasts.
