Houston, TX – A powerful cold front will sweep through Southeast Texas on Sunday, bringing severe storms, potential tornadoes, and freezing temperatures. Officials urge residents to prepare for damaging winds and sudden drops in temperature, especially along the I-45 and I-10 corridors.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms are expected to develop Sunday morning, peaking in intensity by late afternoon. A marginal to slight risk of severe weather covers much of the region, including Houston, College Station, and Conroe. Brief tornadoes and wind gusts over 40 mph are possible, particularly in areas north of I-10.

Once the storms clear, an arctic air mass will settle in, sending temperatures plummeting into the 20s and 30s overnight. Subfreezing lows are forecast through midweek, with daytime highs struggling to reach the upper 40s.

Key Safety Measures:

Protect people, pets, plants, and pipes as temperatures dip below freezing. Bring pets inside and cover outdoor vegetation.

Check road conditions before traveling as icy patches could form late Sunday.

Ensure your home is winter-ready, with working heaters and insulated pipes to prevent bursting.

The extended forecast shows a sunny but cold Monday and Tuesday, with lows near 30 degrees. Slight warming may return by Wednesday, but temperatures will remain below seasonal averages.
