Lubbock, Texas – Temperatures will dip into the low 60s across the South Plains tonight as a cold front sweeps through West Texas, setting up a round of early morning thunderstorms by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, skies will remain clear overnight, with lows ranging from 54° in Friona to 62° in Aspermont. Winds will begin shifting to the north by dawn Wednesday as the front moves across the region, increasing storm chances in the far southern Texas Panhandle and northern Rolling Plains.

Lubbock is expected to bottom out at 61°, with similar lows in Childress and Brownfield. Residents in Plainview should prepare for a chillier 56°, while Friona sits near the lowest point at 54°.

Although tonight remains calm, early commuters should stay weather-aware. Thunderstorm activity may develop before sunrise, especially near border counties. Officials recommend checking road conditions and securing loose outdoor items before bed.

Temperatures will rebound later Wednesday, but lingering showers are possible through midday. Additional updates will be issued if thunderstorm development intensifies overnight.
