Austin, TX – Rain and thunderstorms will sweep across Austin midweek as a strong cold front pushes through the region, bringing cooler temperatures and travel disruptions. Residents should prepare for gusty winds and potential delays during the Wednesday morning and early afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers could begin Tuesday night, with a more organized band of thunderstorms expected between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts may reach up to 25 mph as the front moves southward, and localized rainfall could lead to slick roadways, particularly along major routes such as Interstate 35 and Highway 183.
By Wednesday evening, the front will bring a noticeable temperature drop. Highs, which will reach the upper 60s earlier in the day, will plummet into the low 40s overnight. Thursday will mark a return to sunny and seasonable conditions, with highs in the mid-60s. Calm winds and clear skies will dominate through the rest of the week, providing a welcome reprieve for holiday shoppers and commuters.
Tuesday will bring a mix of patchy fog in the early morning hours, followed by partly sunny skies and warm temperatures nearing 79°F. Motorists should allow extra travel time Tuesday morning, especially in low-visibility areas.
Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday will remain clear, with daytime highs hovering around the upper 60s and nighttime lows dipping into the low 40s. The weekend outlook promises sunny conditions, perfect for outdoor plans.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and drive cautiously during the midweek storms.
