Austin, TX – A powerful cold front is moving through Central Texas today, bringing a dramatic drop in temperatures and gusty winds along the I-35 corridor. The region will see unseasonably warm conditions in the morning, with highs near 72°F, but temperatures will fall sharply by evening, reaching the 30s overnight.
The National Weather Service has issued a warning for near-critical fire weather conditions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. Northerly winds of 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, combined with low humidity and dry vegetation, create an increased fire risk. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, as any fires could spread quickly.
As the front moves through, the forecast for Monday calls for clear skies with a high of 49°F, but overnight temperatures will plummet to 25°F. The chilly conditions are expected to persist through midweek, with lows in the 20s. A potential mix of rain and wintry precipitation could arrive Thursday, particularly north of Highway 90.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, bundle up, and monitor updates for late-week precipitation that may affect travel.
