Lubbock, TX – An extreme cold warning is in effect for Lubbock and surrounding areas from Tuesday night through noon Thursday, with dangerously low wind chills expected. Residents should prepare for temperatures plunging into the single digits, with wind chills as low as -15°F.

According to the National Weather Service, bitterly cold air will move in late Tuesday, bringing subzero wind chills and hazardous conditions. Wednesday’s high will only reach 25°F, with overnight lows in the teens. Cold temperatures will persist through Thursday before a gradual warming trend begins Friday.

Officials urge residents to dress in layers, covering exposed skin to prevent frostbite. Those traveling should keep an emergency kit in their vehicle. Pets should be brought indoors, and precautions should be taken to prevent pipes from freezing.

By the weekend, Lubbock will see relief, with temperatures climbing into the 50s by Saturday and near 70°F on Sunday. However, residents should remain cautious through Thursday as the Arctic front maintains its grip on the region.
