Amarillo, TX – A wildfire outbreak is expected later today, Tuesday, March 18, across eastern New Mexico, northwest Texas, the Texas Panhandle, and western Oklahoma.

According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation will create extreme fire conditions this afternoon and evening. Sustained winds of 30 mph, with gusts exceeding 50 mph, could accelerate fire spread.

Residents are urged to avoid any activities that could spark fires and remain prepared for evacuation orders if needed. Authorities advise staying updated via spc.noaa.gov and weather.gov for the latest alerts and safety measures.
