Amarillo, TX – An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles from 6 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday, with wind chills expected to plummet as low as 25 degrees below zero.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, dangerously cold temperatures will impact cities including Amarillo, Guymon, Dalhart, and Pampa, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Exposure to these extreme conditions could cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, wear multiple layers, and cover exposed skin. If travel is necessary, carrying an emergency kit with blankets and extra clothing is recommended.

This Arctic blast will bring some of the coldest wind chills of the season, affecting roads and infrastructure. Officials advise checking on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those without adequate heating.

The extreme cold is expected to ease by Wednesday afternoon, with temperatures gradually rising. Stay updated with local forecasts and prepare for hazardous conditions through midweek.
