Austin, Texas – Strong tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail are possible across parts of Texas and Louisiana through Tuesday night, with cities from Austin to Shreveport facing the brunt of a dangerous spring storm system.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to intensify this afternoon and evening, moving from central Texas into east and southeast Texas and into western Louisiana. Areas inside a red-dashed zone—including Austin, College Station, Lufkin, and parts of central Louisiana—face the highest risk for strong tornadoes, while large hail up to 2 inches is also possible within a broader green-dashed region.
Cities such as Killeen, Houston, Beaumont, and Alexandria should prepare for damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning. Interstate corridors including I-35, I-45, and I-10 could see hazardous travel conditions after 3 p.m. School districts and emergency services across the region are monitoring developments, with some prepared to issue early dismissals or open shelters if warnings are triggered.
Residents are urged to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and stay weather-aware through Tuesday night. Have multiple ways to receive alerts, especially after dark.
Severe thunderstorm and tornado watches may be expanded this evening as the system continues eastward. More updates are expected by 8 p.m. Central.
