Nashville, TN – More than 3.4 million people across Tennessee are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Saturday as severe weather threatens to sweep across the region with damaging winds, hail, and potential tornadoes.
According to the US National Weather Service in Nashville, the tornado watch covers a large swath of Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky, including cities such as Nashville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, and Bowling Green. Florence, Alabama is also included in the affected area. The watch, originally set to expire at 7 p.m., has been extended to 9 p.m. CDT due to the ongoing threat of multiple storm systems.
The Weather Service warns of possible tornadoes, isolated hail up to ping pong ball size, and widespread wind gusts reaching up to 75 mph. Flash flooding is also a concern as storms move quickly through already saturated areas.
Residents are urged to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Outdoor plans should be postponed, and those in mobile homes or vulnerable structures should seek sturdier shelter.
Schools and hospitals across the region remain on standby, with emergency responders urging the public to take this alert seriously. The watch includes 853 schools and 80 hospitals.
Storm conditions may persist into early Sunday morning.
