Memphis, Tennessee – Storms will rumble into Memphis Thursday afternoon, with heavy rain and possible thunder threatening travel just before the evening commute. The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms could begin after 1 p.m., with a 70% chance of rain and localized downpours expected along major roads like I-240 and I-40.

According to the NWS, Thursday’s system will arrive following a foggy, humid morning. Rain totals may exceed a quarter inch in some neighborhoods, especially during storms. Commuters should expect slick road conditions and brief visibility issues after lunchtime. Winds will shift southeast in the morning before turning southwest near 5 mph.

Thursday night brings continued rain chances, dropping to 62°F with light winds. Showers may linger through early Friday, though skies are expected to clear. Friday looks mostly sunny, with highs around 77°F and calmer northwest winds.

The weekend brings a seasonal flip: Saturday and Sunday will feel like early summer, with full sunshine and highs soaring to 82°F and 87°F respectively. Winds stay mild, but the rising heat will push the UV index higher, so residents should hydrate and limit prolonged outdoor exposure.

Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will remain sunny and hot, with Monday night dipping to 69°F and Tuesday reaching a sweltering 88°F. A slight thunderstorm chance returns Tuesday afternoon.

Warnings remain in place through Thursday night. Residents should monitor updates from the NWS and avoid non-essential travel during storms.
