Memphis, Tennessee – Scattered severe storms are expected to move across West Tennessee and North Mississippi between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, bringing threats of damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the region is under a Level 2 out of 5 severe risk, with storms pushing west to east throughout the day. Areas from Memphis to Jackson, Tennessee, and into northern Mississippi could see wind gusts topping 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

Communities including Dyersburg, Brownsville, Clarksdale, and Olive Branch fall within the higher risk zone. Power outages and hazardous travel conditions are possible, especially during the afternoon commute. The NWS urges residents to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

While not all areas will experience severe conditions, storms may quickly intensify, especially in localized cells. This is the second round of storms to impact the region this week, following a quieter start to May.

The threat is expected to diminish after sunset, but further alerts may be issued if conditions evolve. Stay weather-aware and monitor updates from the National Weather Service throughout the day.
