Memphis, Tennessee – Floodwaters are still rising along the Mississippi River in Memphis as a prolonged advisory threatens roads, low-lying homes, and spring travel plans through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday for areas surrounding the Mississippi River. The river stood at 33.3 feet Friday night—just shy of flood stage—and is impacting Rivergate Drive north of the rail yards. In Arkansas, low-lying settlements near Blue Lake are underwater, and several secondary roads east of the Arkansas Levee are covered.

Drivers and pedestrians should avoid flood-prone zones, especially near the riverbanks. The NWS warns that even small rises in water could make nearby streets impassable. Additional flooding is possible with scattered showers expected Sunday evening and a higher storm chance returning Tuesday night, with up to a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

Conditions stay mostly dry through Monday, but a warm, unstable air mass midweek may bring additional localized flooding risks. The Mississippi River is forecast to drop below action stage by mid-May, but localized flash flooding could occur sooner with additional rain.

5-Day Memphis Forecast (April 27–May 1):

  • Sunday: High 80°F, chance of showers after 4 p.m.
  • Monday: Sunny, high near 88°F.
  • Tuesday: 20% storm chance by evening, high 86°F.
  • Wednesday: 50% thunderstorm chance, high 84°F.
  • Thursday: More storms possible, high near 83°F.
