Memphis, TN – Bitterly cold weather continues to dominate West Tennessee as a cold weather advisory remains in effect through Wednesday morning. Wind chills are forecasted to drop as low as 6°F tonight, with temperatures reaching a high of only 36°F on Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory will remain active from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday, covering Memphis, Jackson, and surrounding areas. Officials warn that exposed skin could face frostbite in minutes, and prolonged exposure to the cold can lead to hypothermia.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, wear multiple warm layers, and ensure pets are kept indoors. Motorists traveling along I-40 and other roadways should prepare for icy conditions early Wednesday and allow extra time for their commutes.
Wednesday’s weather will improve slightly, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-30s. However, nighttime lows will dip again to around 24°F. By Thursday, temperatures are expected to climb to the low 40s during the day before dropping into the mid-20s overnight.
Looking ahead, Memphis could see slightly warmer conditions Friday with a high near 39°F under mostly sunny skies. A significant warm-up is expected Saturday as temperatures approach 50°F, though rain is possible late Saturday into Sunday.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local meteorologists and the NWS for any changes to the forecast. Ensure your homes are winter-ready, and take precautions to protect vulnerable family members, pets, and neighbors.
