Memphis, Tenn. – Back-to-back rounds of severe thunderstorms could impact much of West Tennessee Friday and Saturday afternoon, bringing the risk of damaging winds and hail both evenings.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather covers the region on Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, with scattered strong storms expected after 3 p.m. each day. While the threat is not widespread, forecasters warn that any storm cells that do develop could produce localized wind damage and heavy rainfall.
Memphis, Jackson, Dyersburg, and surrounding areas are all included in the risk zone. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts through the weekend. Travel could be impacted, especially on I-40 and I-55, during evening hours as visibility drops in strong downpours.
The NWS rates confidence in this system as low to moderate, meaning details could shift. However, emergency planners recommend preparing now, especially if attending outdoor events or traveling during the evening.
More updates are expected Friday morning. Warnings may be issued on short notice both afternoons as storms rapidly develop.
