Huntsville, AL – Freezing temperatures are set to descend on the Tennessee Valley this weekend, with frost beginning early Friday. Cold air from a major front will plunge lows into the 20s and highs struggling to reach the mid-40s through Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns residents to prepare now for extreme cold, especially vulnerable populations like the elderly.
According to the NWS, the coldest period will hit Sunday night, with lows falling to 22 degrees. Tonight and Friday night will also see widespread frost, making it critical for homeowners to cover exposed plants and ensure outdoor pets are protected. Roads across the Tennessee Valley, including U.S. 72, may experience icy conditions in the early mornings as frost thickens, potentially impacting holiday travel.
Black Friday shoppers should prepare for near-freezing temperatures before sunrise, with Friday’s high reaching only 47 degrees. Saturday will offer a brief reprieve with sunshine and highs near 50 degrees, but another cold snap will bring temperatures plummeting again Sunday night, with Monday’s high forecasted at just 44 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to prepare vehicles for cold starts, dress in layers, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Stay informed with updates at weather.gov and ensure proper precautions are in place for family, neighbors, and pets.
