Huntsville, AL – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee through Monday evening, creating slippery and dangerous travel conditions. Light snowfall of up to an inch and freezing rain are already impacting roadways, particularly near I-65 and other major routes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville, the advisory lasts until 7 p.m. Monday as lingering rain freezes across the region. Officials warn drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution while traveling, especially during the evening commute. Accidents are possible where untreated roadways turn icy.
Tuesday’s forecast shows a high near 34°F with overnight lows dipping into the low 20s, prompting additional concerns for black ice formation. The extended outlook predicts continued freezing temperatures through Wednesday morning, with highs hovering in the mid-30s and lows as cold as 15°F. Residents are urged to protect people, pets, and pipes from the extreme cold.
Looking ahead, conditions are expected to moderate slightly by Thursday, with highs reaching the low 40s. However, colder-than-average temperatures may persist into the weekend, raising the risk of frozen pipes and hypothermia for outdoor pets and individuals without adequate shelter.
For updates, monitor local forecasts and dial 511 for current road conditions in Alabama or Tennessee. Travelers should carry emergency kits, including blankets and water, in case of delays.
