Memphis, TN – A cold weather pattern is poised to grip Tennessee this week, with overnight lows expected to plummet into the 20s across much of the region. The National Weather Service warns residents to prepare for freezing conditions, especially during the holiday travel rush.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will drop significantly after midweek, with Wednesday night lows nearing freezing and dipping further on Thanksgiving. Travelers using I-40 or other regional roadways should watch for potential frost during early morning hours, creating slick conditions on bridges and overpasses.

Tuesday will offer a mild reprieve, with sunny skies and a high near 53°F, but cooler air arrives that evening with lows around 40°F. By Wednesday night, a 70% chance of rain will bring colder temperatures, with lows in the mid-30s. Thanksgiving Day is expected to stay cloudy and breezy, with a high near 50°F.

The coldest nights will hit Thursday and Friday, with lows forecast in the mid-20s to low 30s. Highs on Friday and Saturday will only reach the low-to-mid 40s, keeping outdoor holiday activities chilly.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and protect outdoor plants and pipes from freezing. Those traveling should ensure their vehicles are equipped for cold conditions.

This cold spell could linger into the weekend, making for frosty mornings and brisk daytime temperatures. For up-to-date weather updates, visit the National Weather Service or tune in to local news broadcasts.
