Memphis, TN – Tennessee drivers are advised to exercise caution this morning as a dense fog advisory remains in effect across the Memphis area until 9 a.m. Visibility on major roadways, including I-40 and I-55, may drop to a quarter mile or less, posing serious hazards for early commuters. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights to improve visibility and prevent accidents.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, this dense fog primarily impacts areas near bodies of water, with rapidly changing conditions possible. Fog is expected to gradually dissipate by mid-morning, bringing improved visibility as the day progresses. Drivers should remain alert for sudden fog patches, especially near the Mississippi River and low-lying areas.
Looking ahead, Memphis can expect mostly clear skies and comfortable temperatures as the fog lifts. Friday afternoon will see sunny skies with highs around 60°F, making for a pleasant end to the week. Overnight, patchy fog may return briefly, with lows around 44°F, followed by sunshine on Saturday and temperatures reaching near 63°F.
The extended forecast shows mild conditions persisting through the weekend, with Sunday reaching a high of 70°F. By Monday, a slight chance of showers could return, with breezy conditions and highs in the low 70s. For those planning outdoor activities, the NWS recommends taking advantage of the clear weather on Saturday and Sunday.
Motorists are reminded to stay vigilant and take extra precautions during foggy conditions, as visibility can change unexpectedly, especially on rural routes and near open fields.
