Memphis, TN – Communities along the Mississippi River in Tennessee are facing ongoing flood risks as moderate to major flooding continues, with water levels expected to stay above flood stage through Sunday, April 27.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, multiple areas including Memphis, Osceola, and Tunica are experiencing elevated river levels due to persistent upstream flow. As of midday Thursday, the Mississippi River at Memphis measured 37.6 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 34 feet. The river is expected to begin falling slowly this weekend, with water dropping below flood stage by Thursday, April 24.
In Osceola, AR, major flooding is ongoing with the river at 37.3 feet. Roads such as Shoaf Landing and areas near Highway 19 West are underwater. Evacuations may be hindered as access routes become submerged.
Residents near Tunica, MS, are seeing moderate flooding, with parts of Lloyd Road and Sherry Lane inundated. In Caruthersville, MO, floodwaters have reached the base of protective floodwalls, and Highway 88 is partially underwater.
