Memphis, Tennessee – Riverside Park Marina and areas near the Loosahatchie River in Memphis are starting to flood as the Mississippi River continues rising, prompting a Flood Warning in effect until late Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the river reached 35.9 feet Tuesday night and is expected to exceed the 36.0-foot threshold where water begins encroaching onto the Fullen Dock area. Roads near the river’s mouth are also impacted. Minor to moderate flooding is forecast along the Lower Mississippi River, including Tiptonville, Caruthersville, Osceola, and Tunica Mhoon Landing.
Emergency officials are urging residents to avoid flooded roadways and riverbanks. Barricades should not be bypassed under any circumstances, and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes. Additional safety tips and updates are available at weather.gov/memphis.
Showers and thunderstorms could worsen flooding conditions starting Thursday, with a 50% to 80% chance of rain through Friday, adding to already swollen rivers. South winds may intensify during storms, raising further concerns for low-lying communities.
Warnings remain in effect through Friday night, and more advisories could follow if rainfall totals exceed expectations.
