Knoxville, TN – A flood warning remains in effect for parts of East Tennessee, including Knox, Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, and Union counties, until 10 a.m. EDT Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, the region has received between 1 and 3 inches of rain, causing rivers, creeks, and urban drainage systems to overflow. Flooding has been reported in low-lying and flood-prone areas, with conditions expected to persist for several hours.

Affected areas include major cities such as Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Clinton, and Alcoa, along with smaller communities like Maynardville, Rutledge, and Rocky Top. Residents are urged to remain cautious and avoid flooded roads. The NWS advises, “Turn around, don’t drown,” as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain, numerous low-water crossings pose additional risks during heavy rainfall. Authorities recommend seeking alternate routes and staying informed through local weather updates.

The flood warning will expire at 10 a.m., but residual flooding could linger as water moves through the drainage system. For real-time updates, visit weather.gov.
