Memphis, TN – Residents across the Memphis metropolitan area are urged to remain cautious today as heavy rain persists, increasing flood risks. Urban and small stream flooding is impacting low-lying areas and roadways, prompting travel warnings.
According to the National Weather Service, a flood advisory remains in effect until 3:30 a.m. Friday. Rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches have already been recorded, with localized totals of up to an inch expected overnight. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roads, particularly in Shelby County, and remain alert to changing conditions.
Saturday Outlook and 5-Day Forecast:
• Saturday: Thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon, with highs near 66°F. Travel delays are possible due to additional rain.
• Saturday Night: Showers will continue into the evening with cooling temperatures around 50°F. Flood-prone areas may see additional standing water.
• Sunday: Skies will clear, bringing mostly sunny conditions with a high near 62°F.
• Monday: Temperatures will climb to 65°F with sunny skies, offering relief for post-Christmas travelers.
• Tuesday: A cool-down is expected, with highs near 47°F under mostly sunny skies.
Residents are reminded to “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roadways. Minor flooding has already been reported in Bartlett, Germantown, and parts of West Memphis.
