Memphis, TN – Thanksgiving week in West Tennessee will end on a cold note, with freezing temperatures and widespread frost expected by Friday morning.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will drop sharply after Thanksgiving, with lows near 31°F Thursday night and a brisk 29°F early Friday morning. These freezing conditions will likely create frost across the region, especially in rural and suburban areas. Residents are advised to protect sensitive plants, ensure outdoor pets are safe, and check on heating systems ahead of the drop.

Thanksgiving Day itself will be mild, with partly sunny skies and highs near 64°F—perfect for outdoor festivities. A slight chance of rain lingers in the early morning hours but is expected to clear by mid-morning, leaving dry conditions for the rest of the day.

By Thursday night, cold air will surge into the region, leading to much chillier weather into the weekend. Friday will bring sunny skies, but highs will struggle to reach 45°F, and the night will see another cold plunge, with lows dipping to 29°F. Saturday offers similar conditions, with highs in the upper 40s and clear skies, providing a crisp but bright end to the holiday week.

Drivers should take extra caution Friday morning, especially on elevated roads and bridges, where icy patches could develop. Holiday travelers should plan for frosty windshields and extra time warming up vehicles.

With a bright but chilly forecast, West Tennessee residents are encouraged to enjoy Thanksgiving Day’s mild temperatures while preparing for the sharp cold to follow. Be sure to bundle up and take extra precautions for the freezing mornings ahead.
