Memphis, TN – The National Weather Service has issued Flood Warnings for two rivers in the Mid-South region, forecasting minor flooding along the Obion River in northwest Tennessee and the Coldwater River in northern Mississippi.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, both warnings go into effect late Thursday night as recent and upcoming rainfall is expected to raise river levels. The Obion River near Bogota is forecast to exceed its 22-foot flood stage early Friday, cresting at 22.5 feet by Friday evening. The Coldwater River near Sarah, Mississippi, is expected to reach 22.5 feet by Sunday evening, with its flood stage marked at 18.0 feet.

Officials warn that at these levels, agricultural and lowland flooding is expected near Bogota and Sarah. In Tennessee, water could reach the outskirts of Bogota. In Mississippi, flooding will occur on the left bank, primarily affecting farmland, while the right bank is protected by levees.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways. The National Weather Service reminds the public, “Turn around, don’t drown,” emphasizing that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

The duration and crest of flooding may be affected by ongoing rainfall, and updated forecasts are expected over the next several days. Both river systems may remain above flood stage through the weekend or longer.
