Huntsville, Alabama – Drivers across North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee are facing dangerously low visibility this morning as dense fog blankets the region, making the Friday commute treacherous.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Lauderdale, Madison, Cullman, and surrounding counties until 9 a.m. CDT. Visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less, impacting cities from Decatur to Scottsboro, and extending north to Fayetteville and Winchester, Tennessee.
Roads along Highway 72, I-65, and U.S. 231 may be especially hazardous during early travel hours. Transportation departments are urging motorists to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra stopping distance.
Morning bus routes and work commutes in Florence, Albertville, and Guntersville could be delayed as fog lingers through sunrise. This advisory affects all of northern Alabama and portions of southern Middle Tennessee, with fog expected to lift gradually by mid-morning.
Conditions should improve after 9 a.m., but drivers should remain alert for patchy fog in shaded or low-lying areas. No additional advisories are expected, but updates will be issued if visibility worsens.
