Independence, LA – Louisiana State Police are investigating a multi-agency officer-involved shooting that occurred early Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Tangipahoa Parish. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Trey Ramey of Brusly, remains hospitalized following the violent series of events that injured multiple officers.

According to Louisiana State Police, the incident began just before 3 a.m. when a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2016 Chevrolet Trax on Highway 51 for an equipment violation. During the stop, Ramey allegedly fled, firing multiple shots at responding officers. An Independence Police Department officer was struck by gunfire, and a Tickfaw Police officer reportedly exchanged gunfire with Ramey.

Authorities say Ramey then carjacked two victims’ Toyota Camry and fled north before crashing along Highway 51. After abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot, Ramey was shot by a Louisiana State Trooper during the confrontation. He was later taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators discovered that Ramey had active warrants for hit and run, filing false police reports, and injuring public records. Once released from the hospital, he will face those charges along with new offenses related to Wednesday’s incident.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab and Force Investigation Unit continue processing the scene and collecting evidence. The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information is confirmed.
