Syracuse, NY – Lake effect snow continues across northern portions of Central New York today, with several inches of accumulation and dangerous travel conditions expected through this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for Onondaga, Oneida, and Madison counties until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Forecasters warn that heavy snow bands could produce quick bursts of accumulation—up to 6 to 8 inches in localized areas, including Syracuse, Cazenovia, and Baldwinsville.
According to the NWS, snow squalls may significantly reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less at times, particularly during the morning and early afternoon. Gusty winds could create blowing and drifting snow, leading to slick roads and hazardous driving conditions on portions of I-81 and I-90.
Snowfall totals are expected to taper off late tonight as the lake effect weakens. However, light snow showers could linger into early Wednesday for parts of Central and Northern New York.
Motorists are urged to slow down, keep headlights on, and allow extra time for travel.
