Livingston, MT – Drivers traveling along Interstate 90 in south central Montana could encounter slushy roads, bursts of snow, and gusty winds Tuesday, creating difficult travel conditions between Livingston and Big Timber through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight Tuesday for the Livingston area, Northern Sweet Grass County, the Melville Foothills, and Southern Wheatland County. Snowfall totals could reach up to 3 inches while winds gust near 30 mph, occasionally lowering visibility on open stretches of highway.

The advisory includes Livingston, Big Timber, Springdale, Melville, Shawmut, Twodot, and Harlowton. Travel impacts are expected along Interstate 90 between Big Timber and Livingston, including Bozeman Pass, as well as US-191 between Big Timber and Harlowton.

Roadways during the daytime hours may stay mostly wet, but forecasters warn that icy or slushy patches could develop by evening as temperatures fall. Higher elevations, particularly along mountain passes and foothill terrain, are expected to see the most hazardous conditions.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check Montana’s 511 road system before traveling. Blowing snow and reduced visibility may develop quickly in exposed areas.

Snow should taper late Tuesday night, though slick spots may persist into early Wednesday. Officials say additional advisories remain possible if conditions worsen.
