Indianapolis, IN – Residents across Indiana are preparing for a significant cold front, expected to bring freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills by the end of the week. Thanksgiving Day will see cloudy skies before temperatures plunge into the teens by Friday morning, with wind chill values near zero.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will transition to snow overnight Wednesday, with up to half an inch of accumulation possible. By Thursday, temperatures will hover around 43°F during the day but will fall to a frigid 25°F by night. Gusty winds will make conditions feel even colder.
Those traveling on major roadways like I-70 and I-65 should exercise caution, especially Friday morning when icy patches may develop. Wind chills Friday morning will dip to single digits, creating hazardous conditions for those venturing outside. Emergency warming centers are available—residents can dial 2-1-1 for local locations.
The cold air persists through the weekend. Saturday will bring a chance of light snow overnight, while daytime highs barely reach 30°F. Sunday remains clear but cold, with lows again in the teens. Wind chills may make it feel 10-15 degrees colder throughout the holiday weekend.
With temperatures plunging, officials urge residents to check on neighbors and family members who may need assistance staying warm. Ensure outdoor pets have adequate shelter, and bundle up if venturing outdoors.
