Minnesota – A frigid weekend lies ahead for East Grand Forks and surrounding areas, with wind chills dipping as low as -25 in the early mornings. Residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure, as frostbite can occur within minutes in these conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s high will struggle to reach 7°F, with winds making it feel closer to -17°F. Tonight, temperatures will drop to -6°F, with Saturday morning bringing even harsher wind chills in the Devils Lake Basin, plummeting to -30°F. Highs on Saturday will hover between 0°F and 17°F, but the biting northwest winds will persist, making it feel significantly colder.
Sunday may bring slight relief with highs reaching 17°F, though northwest winds will remain at 6–8 mph. A slight chance of snow flurries is forecast late Sunday, but accumulation will likely be minimal.
Drivers traveling along Highway 2 and the I-29 corridor should prepare for reduced visibility in snow-prone areas like Lake of the Woods. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, as icy conditions may develop overnight on bridges and untreated roadways.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday may see a mix of sunshine and scattered snow showers, with daytime highs improving to 14°F and 19°F, respectively. Be aware of a 50% chance of snow Monday night, which could impact travel early next week.
Prepare for dangerously cold mornings and remain weather-aware by checking updates frequently. Stay safe, and limit time outdoors during extreme cold to avoid frostbite.
